Order processes no longer manual with immediate effect

As part of the "Finkernagel Digital" corporate project, Finkernagel is currently working on forward-looking topics in eight different initiatives. The goal of the project is to further advance digitization within the company.

Another initiative has now been completed. We asked initiative leader Boris Chiarelli how he dealt with the topic of "Digital Ordering Processes & Warehouse Management".

Mr. Chiarelli, please explain your initiative briefly. What was the task and what did you do with it?

Boris Chiarelli: The project consisted of two parts: The first part involved the introduction of digital inventory management of auxiliary and operating materials in order to simplify and speed up inventory control and order initiation. For this purpose, the storage bins were equipped with barcodes so that stocks can be recorded by scanner and requisitions triggered. The recorded data flows directly into our ERP system, which then automatically recognizes requirements and generates order proposals.

In the second part, we looked at the management and issue of personal protective equipment and other articles for daily use. For this purpose, an automated issuing system was purchased, which ensures that the articles are available at all times and at the same time considerably reduces the administrative effort (issuing, inventory control, reordering, etc.) in the process.

Is there anything that has particularly contributed to the success of the initiative?

Boris Chiarelli: The good, cross-departmental cooperation and open communication between operations, IT and purchasing.

Were there any particular challenges?

Boris Chiarelli: One challenge was finding a partner for the issuing system who could supply all the products we needed while offering an output solution that met our expectations.

What advice would you give to other companies looking to implement automated purchasing of consumables and supplies?

Boris Chiarelli: Modern IT systems offer a wide range of options for simplifying existing processes. It is therefore worthwhile to regularly put your own processes to the test and take advantage of these opportunities. In the beginning, there is an increased effort, but it pays off in the long run and makes work easier.
